「l.m.v.d.r.」とは、モダニズム建築を代表するドイツ出身の建築家ルードヴィッヒ・ミース・ファン・デル・ローエの頭文字。ルフはある美術館からミースの建築の撮影を依頼され、さらにミースのある時期の全建築作品を撮影するプロジェクトをてがけます。その過程で、ルフはすでに撮影されたミース建築の写真を徹底的に研究し、そのうえで自ら撮影し、あるいは既存の写真を収集し、さらにはそれらのイメージをデジタル処理することで、この近代建築の巨匠についての視覚的な探求を試みました。
This series’ title is made up of the initials of the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a leading proponent of modernist architecture. After first being commissioned by a museum to take pictures of Mies’ works, Ruff undertook a project to photograph all of the architect’s works from a specific period. In the process, he thoroughly researched past photographs of the buildings, and took his own pictures of the works or obtained existing photographs. Then, by digitally processing these images, Ruff embarked on a visual exploration of this master of modern architecture.
